Virginia VW dealer, Checkered Flag Volkswagen, has announced plans to donate a new 2010 VW Beetle at the annual auction of St Mary’s Home for Disabled Children.
St Mary’s Home for the Disabled will be receiving a brand new 2010 VW Beetle courtesy of Checkered Flag VW in Virginia Beach and their hundreds of new Facebook fans.
Checkered Flag held a Facebook fan drive to promote St Mary’s Home for Disabled Children in Norfolk. If they received 500 new ‘Likes’, they would donate a new 2010 VW Beetle to be raffled off at the St Mary’s annual auction, with all proceeds going to the organization.
The news spread rapidly and the generous people of Virginia quickly replied. More than 500 people showed their support of Checkered Flag’s philanthropic gesture and became a fan of Checkered Flag VW.
With their goal of 500 new likes reached, Checkered Flag VW in Virginia Beach will donate the 2010 VW Beetle to St Mary’s to be auctioned off during their 6th Annual Auction and Gala in February.
St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children in Norfolk is where children and young adults from all across Virginia live, play, go to school and receive complex, professional, around-the-clock care in a nurturing, comfortable environment to help them achieve their fullest potential.
St. Mary’s Home is Virginia’s largest long-term pediatric residential care facility dedicated exclusively to children with severe physical and intellectual disabilities and one of only about 100 facilities of its kind nationwide. Staff provide medical, therapeutic, educational and recreational services for as many as 92 children and young adults, ages newborn to 21 years.
The Home opened on Dec. 8, 1944, as an infant home for children who had no homes of their own or needed a temporary place to stay while their mothers were at work in war plants. The sisters of the order of the Daughters of Wisdom began caring for the children in 1946.
